Carlos Gussoni

Carlos Gussoni lives in the countryside not far from the city of Sao Paulo in southeast Brazil.

Carlos is an ornithologist by training with a PhD in Zoology. He has studied the natural history of the Restinga Tyrannulet in the states of São Paulo and Paraná for almost 10 years. He is currently studying the biology of a variety of Cerrado and Atlantic Forest species.

A birder since he was 11 years old, long before Academia beckoned, he has spent a huge amount of time birding across the vast expanses of Brazil, birding in 22 of the 26 Brazilian states! During his expeditions, he has already observed 1294 species in Brazilian territory, giving him an extraordinary knowledge of the Brazilian avifauna. He is an expert on both his native Southeast Brazil and Northeast Brazil, where he is one of the foremost bird tour guides today. In the field, there is nothing that goes unnoticed by Carlos’s ears.

Carlos speaks good English and has a very pleasant manner. He has a very good reputation for looking after all his guests while on tour.
