The Ultimate In Birding Tours

Trevor Ellery

Trevor Ellery is originally from Hampshire in the United Kingdom, but Trevor has spent extensive periods living in Israel, Ecuador and now Colombia, where he has been largely resident since 2008. He is of course a fluent Spanish speaker.

Trevor has spent much of those years exploring the length and breadth of Colombia while leading countless tours, undertaking expeditions or simply making his own huge number of birding explorations. He is co-author of Field-guides to the Birds of Colombia. Trevor’s knowledge of where to find and how to identify Colombian birds is second to none and his encyclopaedic knowledge about Colombian birding never ceases to astonish us.

Trevor has also travelled widely in the rest of South America and has led tours in a series of different countries, in particular Venezuela, Ecuador and Brazil, all of which he knows well.

He is a keen photographer and sound recordist and has a developing interest in Neotropical Lepidoptera and a long-term interest in Neotropical mammals. Before leaving the UK he gained a degree in History and English Literature and was also formerly a keen UK lister. That listing passion has transferred to Colombia, where has seen over 1500 species!

Trevor is a passionate conservationist and enjoys showing people the avian and environmental delights of Colombia, helping to put this once-difficult destination firmly back on the birding tourism map. As well as birds and other creatures, Trevor also likes to point out details of local customs, history and culture during his groups’ travels.
