The Ultimate In Birding Tours

Sjoerd Radstaak

Sjoerd Radstaak (for English speakers, Sjoerd is pronounced like a cross between ‘short’ and ‘shirt’!) lives in Amersfoort in the Netherlands with his partner and young daughter Pitta – yes, like the bird family!

A keen birder from the age of seven, he was initially limited to the Netherlands, but it was not long before he started travelling further afield. In the Netherlands, he has guided many field excursions, but he has also guided birding and non-birding tours for various companies to a number of destinations.

Sjoerd has extensive experience in parts of Asia, especially the Indian subcontinent, Vietnam, West Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra, Java and the Philippines. He has also thoroughly explored West Papua in the island of New Guinea and parts of Australia.

In the New World, he knows California, Arizona, Mexico, Costa Rica, Cuba, Suriname, Colombia, Ecuador and Northeast Brazil well, while his African experience includes Morocco, Senegal, Ghana and Ethiopia.

Those of you who read trip reports on Cloudbirders may well have seen some of his extensive and highly appreciated reports.

Currently, Sjoerd works as a landscape architect for the municipality of The Hague when he is not enjoying family life or out birding in the Netherlands or abroad.
