The Ultimate In Birding Tours

Andrew Stainthorpe

Andrew Stainthorpe is a passionate birder and seasoned wildlife guide from South Africa, with over two decades of experience in the field. A qualified bird ringer (bander) and SKS (Specialised Knowledge & Skills) in dangerous game guiding, Andrew brings a rare combination of technical expertise, deep bush knowledge, and heartfelt enthusiasm to every tour he leads.

Born in the small town of White River on the edge of the Kruger National Park, Andrew’s fascination with birds and wildlife began at an early age. His upbringing in this biodiverse region sparked a lifelong passion for conservation, which led him to pursue a Conservation Diploma and a career devoted to nature tourism.

His professional journey has included guiding in the Kruger National Park and the Kalahari, managing lodges in Namibia and nature reserves in the Northern Cape, as well as various bird monitoring programmes throughout South Africa.

Birding has always been at the heart of Andrew’s work and personal life. His relaxed demeanour, combined with a strong ability to communicate and connect with people, makes him a sought-after tour leader. He delights in sharing the diversity of birdlife and the wonder of the natural world with his guests—and often, with his wife and two children on family outings.

An avid bird photographer and meticulous lister, Andrew enjoys capturing moments in the wild and tracking bird sightings across Africa, with the goal of reaching the 2000-species milestone on the continent. While his current focus remains on birding in Africa, he aspires to broaden his horizons into Asia and the Americas in the future.

Whether guiding first-time birders or seasoned ornithologists, Andrew’s blend of field knowledge, storytelling and genuine love for the outdoors ensure a memorable and enriching experience for all.
