Welcome to Birdquest

Andy Jensen

Andy Jensen

Andy Jensen grew up in England, and has been birding since a young age, encouraged by grandparents who lived on the doorstep of Minsmere RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) reserve. Most weekends were spent birding around East Anglia and Southeast England.

Since graduating from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, he has worked as an Environmental Consultant in Northern Scotland and Edinburgh, work which included many ornithological surveys and studies for both private firms and the British Trust for Ornithology. Andy has birded in North America and China as well as extensively across Europe.

He now lives in Brisbane, Australia with his wife Emma and young daughter Isabella, and has achieved his lifelong dream of seeing England win the Ashes on Australian soil!

Andy works as an Environmental Consultant in Brisbane, and has travelled very widely in Australia in his spare time. He is on the committee of the Queensland Wader Study Group and still has to pinch himself when searching through flocks of sandplovers, Great Knot, Sharp-tailed Sandpipers and Red-necked Stint trying to find a vagrant Redshank, Dunlin or Ruff – how the tables have turned!

Andy now knows almost every corner of his adopted continent and has an intimate knowledge of Australian birds and how to find them.
