Terbish Khayankhayrvaa

Terbish Khayankhayrvaa lives in Ulaanbaatar. Born and raised in remote Buutsagaan county in the Khangay mountains of central Mongolia, he studied to become a teacher and then went on to study biology at the Educational University of Ulaanbaatar. Terbish became Professor of Biology and later Director of Khovd University in the west of the country, and is now Professor of Ecology at the University of Ulaanbaatar. He has travelled the length and breadth of Mongolia during his expeditions, and is an all-round naturalist with an interest in birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. A highly-knowledgeable herpetologist, his numerous scientific papers and books include the standard guides to the country’s amphibians and reptiles. His interest in looking after overseas visitors started in 1992, with his involvement in Operation Raleigh, and in 2001 he started his own company to operate expedition-style adventures for visitors to his wild and wonderful homeland.
