Luciano Naka

Luciano Naka lives in Boa Vista, Brazil, with his partner and daughter. Born in Buenos Aires, Luciano, who speaks fluent English, joined the local ornithological society at the early age of 13 and was soon amazed to find out just how rich and diverse Argentina’s birdlife and habitats are. At 18, after birding most of his native country, he took off and travelled in Europe, North and West Africa and the Indian subcontinent. Neotropical birds remain his favourite subject, however, and he has now visited most of South America, from the Caribbean to Tierra del Fuego. He has lived in Brazil since 1994, graduating in biological sciences. After birding and working on conservation projects in many different areas of the country, he moved to the Amazon (obtaining a master’s degree for studies of the canopy avifauna near Manaus). Luciano’s primary interests are now the ecology and biogeography of Amazonian Birds. He has published several scientific papers and also a book on the birds of Santa Catarina island, off southern Brazil.
