The first ever organised bird tour to the islands beyond Sulawesi started in the northeast corner of Sulawesi. Five different and little known island groups - each with their distinctive endemics and future splits - were visited on this epic adventure: Talaud, Peleng, Taliabu, the Togians and Sangihe (Yvon Princen).
In between our visits to the several islands, we regularly returned to the hub of Manado, where we found this Great Knot, next to beauties like Scaly Kingfisher (Craig Robson).
A pair of Ochre-bellied Boobooks gave great views on their day roost in Tangkoko National Park (Mark Van Beirs).
Talaud was the first island we visited on our island hopping adventure. One of the main specialities to find was the Talaud Kingfisher (Craig Robson).
A showy Oriental Cuckoo (Angie Pattison).
The group waiting for the boat in the harbour of Luwuk (Yvon Princen).
One of the main reasons for visiting the highlands of Peleng is the occurence of the recently (re)discovered Banggai Crow (Angie Pattison).
The adorable Banggai Scops Owl behaved very well (Angie Pattison).
