Our first 2017 tour to Cuba produced, as usual, all of the available national and regional endemics and a fine selection of wintering North American migrants and others. Bird of the trip by a substantial margin was the amazing Bee Hummingbird which gave a series of superb views but also very popular were such stunners as Blue-headed Quail Dove and Cuban Tody. The sometimes tricky Zapata Wren showed exceptionally well and we had a lucky encounter with the rare Gundlach’s Hawk when one suddenly appeared and mobbed a Stygian Owl we were watching. The weather throughout was mostly fine and sunny apart from a few short showers.
