The amazing Turquoise-browed Motmot (Chris Kehoe)
Our recent Best of Costa Rica tour once again served up a fabulous selection of marvellous birds in equally wonderful and diverse settings. The amazing Resplendent Quetzal took top honours with several birds seen, some extremely well. A plethora of stunning Trogons, Hummingbirds, Manakins, Motmots and many others made up a superb supporting cast as we travelled from the cloudforest and paramo clad highlands to the steamy forests, savannas and wetlands of the lowlands on both the Pacific and Caribbean slopes. Mammals were rather prominent on the tour too with an Ocelot, an Olingo and a Northern Tamandua especially notable amongst more regularly seen fare such as Coatis and Howler Monkeys. We had some rain, as expected, but none that really hindered us and the tour logistics ran very smoothly. Whether you are a newcomer to the riches of Neotropical birding or in search of the many stunning endemics of south Central America there is simply no better destination than Costa Rica, it really is one of the world’s top birding destinations.
