Welcome to Birdquest
Saturday 20th February - Saturday 5th March 2016
Our recent tour produced numerous highlights including many species restricted to southern Central America, a wide array of more widespread Neotropical birds plus many migrants from the north. Resplendent Quetzal was seen at two cloudforest sites and was voted bird of the trip, in part due to the exceptionally good views we had. In the same mossy we also found the likes of Black Guan, Admirable, Volcano and Fiery-throated Hummingbirds, Collared Whitestart, Azure-hooded Jay, Prong-billed Barbet and Long-tailed Silky Flycatchers. Lowland forests on both slopes gave us Fiery-billed Aracari, Great Curassow, Turquoise and Snowy Cotingas, various Trogons, Mannikins and Honeycreepers plus both Scarlet and Great Green Macaws. More open country on the Pacific slope produced a splendid Lesser Ground Cuckoo plus Spectacled Owls, Pacific Screech Owl, Boat-billed Herons, Long-tailed Mannikins and the mighty Jabiru. With the exception of a drizzly, breezy day at Monteverde the weather was generally very good and the tour logistics ran smoothly as usual.
