Welcome to Birdquest
Friday 22nd September - Friday 13th October 2006
The island continent of Australia has been cut off from the rest of the world for sixty million years and as a result has evolved a remarkable and unique flora and fauna. The birdlife followed a unique evolutionary path. Australia has more endemic bird species than any other country and many bird families which are endemic to Australasia. This new Birdquest tour has been specifically designed to observe representatives from as many of the endemic Australasian families as possible. On the tour we recorded no fewer than 353 species of birds and 24 species of mammals along the east coast and the `Red Centre’ of this beautiful country. There are 87 different families of birds which occur throughout the whole of Australia. On this tour we saw representatives of 80 families, which included all the endemic Australasian families.
(NOTE: This itinerary differs somewhat from that of Bird Families & Marsupials of Australia.)
