The stunning Hooded Grebe (Pete Morris)
PLEASE NOTE THIS SHORT ILLUSTRATED REPORT ONLY VISITED SOUTHERN PATAGONIA
Following on from our fantastic adventure in Antarctica, some of our intrepid group stayed on for some cherry-picking around southern Patagonia, in Tierra del Fuego and Santa Cruz provinces. This proved to be highly rewarding. Although we only recorded 101 species (diversity is low this far south), this included a mouth-watering set of goodies which included the stunning Hooded Grebe, the rarely-seen Patagonian Tinamou and the globally threatened Austral Rail, as well as some excellent waders which included Rufous-chested and Tawny-throated Dotterels and the unique Magellanic Plover.
